Kim Cross writes them from experience.

An independent songwriter from central Illinois, Kim has written more than 400 original songs, each inspired by real life, real loss, real healing, and the hope that no one has to walk through life’s hardest moments alone.

By the age of 13, Kim’s life was forever changed when her mother was murdered. Years later, she lost her younger brother, Jason, in a drunk driving accident just days before they were supposed to see each other. She also lost two of her closest friends to addiction, domestic violence, and choices made under the influence.

Those experiences gave her a deep understanding of grief, resilience, and the lasting impact addiction has on families.

Kim also spent many years loving someone who struggled with alcoholism. Despite countless second chances and several near-death experiences, addiction continued to win. When it began affecting her own health, she made the hardest decision of her life—to choose peace over staying in a battle she couldn’t fight for someone else.

That journey became her music.

Today, Kim is the proud mother of two biological children and two stepchildren she helped raise—four incredible adults she loves beyond words. She’s also grateful that many members of her former extended family remain an important part of her life. Surrounded by amazing friends, a strong yet gentle cowboy father, two supportive stepmothers, and people who have become family by choice, she’s learning to trust, love, and embrace life again. She also shares her home with two beloved fur babies who keep life full of joy.

Kim doesn’t claim to have all the answers, and she certainly doesn’t claim to be perfect. Like many people, she continues healing from the trauma she’s experienced. Songwriting has become one of the most meaningful parts of that journey.

Whether it’s a song about heartbreak, healing, empowerment, laughter, or finding love again, her goal is simple:

To write songs people don’t just hear… but truly feel.

She reads every comment, every message, and every story people share with her. Knowing her music has helped someone feel seen or understood reminds her why she started writing in the first place.

Because if one song can help someone feel a little less alone…

Then every chapter of her journey has been worth writing.
